| The Fit Schools Scheme is a new initiative that we launched at Easter. It is a scheme to encourage children to attend sporting activities outside school and to support the government guidelines for children's participation in a physical activity. The idea is to have children attend term time and holiday sporting activities at the sports club; every time they attend they earn a fit point for their school. At the end of the term the school with the highest fit points is rewarded with a free Multi Sports coach for 1 hour per week for 1 term. This session can be during school time or an after school club and can be in any sport (i.e. football, hockey, netball, SAQ etc.). At the end of the school year one school will have earned the title of East Grinstead Sports Clubs Fit School 2009/10 and so on. If you would like your school to join this scheme we would like the opportunity to meet with you to explain the initiative fully and arrange to hold a session at your school targeted at 7 - 11 year olds. In this session we will do a presentation to the children and tell them all about the scheme and how they can get involved and not only get fit while having fun but support their school as well. Our sports coaches will bring some equipment along and do a few demonstrations and maybe even let some of the children have a go. We will also offer them the chance to enter a competition to win a Wii console. This will cost £1 per entry and all they have to do is name 4 sports characters. For every child who enters 50p will go towards a coaching fund for your school. Once all entries have been received we will write to each school telling them the number of entries received from their school and the value and hours in coaching time you are entitled to as a result of your entries. For example we charge £15 per hour per coach therefore if 30 children enter the competition we would be able to offer you 1 hours free coaching, this could be to support your school team in a particular sport, cover an after school club or run a one off session. Obviously the more children that enter the more hours your school will receive in coaching. If you feel this is something your school would like to be involved in please click here to download and print the request form. Complete form and return it to me so that we can contact you to arrange a date to come to your school and meet the children. After the successful launch of the fit schools scheme at many of the schools before Easter I thought it would be an idea to give you all an update on the current leader board. We had over 400 children attending our sports courses over the Easter break, some from out of the area but many from local schools, so thank you all for your support. It was nice to have the children come up to me and say can I have a fit point for my school and tell me what school they come from, they really are taking this on board and that is thanks to you letting us come along and visit your schools! The current leader board is shown below! ![]() Don't forget the more you encourage the children to visit our club and take part in an activity the more points you get! All they have to do is ask at reception for a sticker and add it to the chart on the wall! We have already had some entries for the Mr. G's team and are hoping to receive more from the schools. If classes want to enter all you have to do is collect the forms and send them in with one cheque for the whole class made payable to "EGSCC". Every entry contributes 50p towards coaching at your school. |
